حكاية مايا هي حكاية عن ملكٍ مجنون هرب من سجنه بعد أن حكم أبناءه عليه بالإعدام ليترك العالم في فوضى خلفه, يحاول أبناء الملك البحث عن أبيهم, الذي يتربص به مرتزق عُيّن ليجد الملك ويعيده مقابل مبلغٍ مجزي من المال, تحدث الحكاية في زمنٍ يتحدث به الرجال بالسيف والنساء بالرمح والأطفال بالقوس, في زمن مليء بالمعارك والحروب, وفي زمنٍ تتسلط فيه الممالك على بعضها البعض ولا قانون غير الغاب يصلح –أو يوجد- هنا, ولكن لا شيء من هذا يهم للملك الذي يحاول الهرب من حكم أبناءه المنقلبين عليه ولا للمرتزق الذي لا يضع نصب عينيه شيء غير الإمساك بالملك المخلوع ميتشيل.
