يتجوّل بنا هذا الكتاب، بين القصص التي ترويها، اصحاحات أسفار التوراة الأولى، التكوين والخروج والتثنية والعدد، من جنّة عدن الى برج بابل، ومن قابيل وهابيل الى العماليق،ومن قصة خلق آدم على صورة على صورة الله ومثاله، الى قصّة تشتّت أبنائه وأحفاده في الأرض، ومن حدث خروج شعب إسرائيل من مصر، الى اتفاقية العهد القديم بين الله وشعب إسرائيل، على يد نبيّ الله موسى، ومن أسطورة يشوع الذي يوقف الشمس في كبد السماء، الى أسطورة شمشون الذي كان قوته في شعر رأسه، ومن معجزة صعود النبي إيليا الى السماء في عجلة من نار، الى معجزة النبي إليشع في إحياء الطفل الميت. ثم ينتقل بنا هذا الكتاب، الى اصحاحات أسفار حكمة الملكين النبيين داود وسليمان، في المزامير والأمثال والجامعة ونشيد الأنشاد، ثم الى اصحاحات أسفار أنبياء الشعب اليهودي، إشعياء وإرميا وحزقيال. يتمكن هذا الكتاب من الربط بين نصوص التوراة، وبين طقوس ومعتقدات ونصوص أديان، شعوب منطقة الشرق الأدنى القديم، في بابل وآشور وسومر وكنعان، خلال الألفين الثالثة والثانية قبل الميلاد، من خلال وثائقهم الكتابية، المكتوبة بالخط المسماري على ألواح من الطين المحروق، التي تركوها في المكتبات الملحقة بالقصور الملكية، في أور ونينوى ورأس شمره، مثل نصوص قانون حامورابي الباحث عن العدل للجميع، ونصوص أسطورة جلجامش الباحث عن سرّ الخلود.
