حين يَتكسّر شيء بداخلك للمرة الأولى تسمع صوتًا مدوّيًا كانفجار، صوت يهزك من الداخل، يُخيفك، ترغب في التمسك بأي شيء كيلا تسقط في الداخل وإلى الداخل، وحين تنجو وستنجو، ينقص الإحساس بداخلك، يبهت لون الأشياء من حولك درجة واحدة، وتُصبح الصورة ضبابية ومُغبّشة قليلًا، مع التكسّر الثاني يكون الصوت أخف، لكن الدمار بالداخل كما هو، كأنك تحوي قارضًا يأكل من روحك تدريجيًا قضمة قضمة، حتى يكون الصوت الذي تسمعه مع كل تكسّر هو قرْض واهن، وعند حدوث التكسّر الأخير تكون نهايات الأعصاب في داخلك قد ماتت وأصبحتَ خدِرًا، لا تسمع ذلك الصوت الذي يحذّرك أنك اقتربت من النهاية وأنك اليوم ستفقد كل شيء".
بعد معاناتها من انهيار عصبي تلجأ للإسكندرية، حيث تبدأ علاقة صداقة بجارها، الذي يساعدها من خلال الحديث والقهوة لتتغلب على نوبات الاكتئاب، وحين تلحظ تغيّر مشاعرها ناحيته، ترحل لتعود بعد عام باحثة عنه، فتكتشف أنه لم يعد موجودًا، وتبدأ رحلة طويلة في تتبع آثاره، تكتشف خلالها أنها لم تكن تعرف حقيقته.
