وقد سجل إنسان هذه العصور معتقداته الدينية في شكل أناشيد وتسبيح وتراتيل وأوراد وتعاليم أخلاقية. ينتظم الكتاب في ثلاثة فصول يدور الفصل الأول حول الدين في الهند القديمة، أما الفصل الثاني فهو يتناول الدين في الصين، بينما يبحث الفصل الثالث الدين في إيران.
