لم يسهر مُنذ زمنٍ مع أصدقائه في مقهى (المولوية). كم كانت سهرة رائعة مع أصدقاء العمر! شعر أن ملامح الشارع قد تغيرت قليلًا عن الصباح، لقد صارت أكثر قِدَمًا، البنايات المُرتفعة اختفت والطريق الأسفلتي تحول إلى طريق ترابيٍّ مُعبَّد، ولا يوجد به أيةُ مظاهر للحياة. ثم ظهرت مجموعة من الأعمدة الفرعونية على جانبي الطريق. سارت السيارة ببطء حتى توقفت في بهو ضخم. هبط (عز الدين) من السيارة مذعورًا، ما هذا؟! إنه لم يسلك طريق القرية الفرعونية أو تل العمارنة، وزاد من فزعه صهيل فرس قويٍّ جاء من خلفه مُباشرةً فجعله يلتفت ناحية الصوت بقوة، ويشاهد عربة ملكية تجرها الخيول تقف مكان سيارته (الفيات) العتيقة. شعر برغبة في الفرار لكن نفيرًا قويًّا جاء من الباحة العلوية قضى على أيِّ فكرة للهروب شاهد مجموعة من الجنود الأقوياء، عُراة الصدور، يرتدون الزيِّ الفرعونيِّ الشهير ويحملون الأبواق، على يمين السُّلم الملكي ويساره الرابط بين البهو والباحة العُلوية، انحنى الجنود أثناء نزول شابٍّ جميل الطلعة، قويِّ العضلات، يرتدي ملابس فرعونية مُزركشة ويضع تاجًا ملكيًّا، يُزينه أفعى الكوبرا المصرية. وقف الدكتور (عز الدين) مشدوهًا، حتى اقترب منه الملك الشاب قائلًا بصوتٍ رجوليٍّ سميك لا يتناسب مع صغر سنه ورشاقة هيئته:
- كيف حالك يا عز الدين؟
رد عز الدين في وجلٍ:
- الحمد لله.
