عادَ من عملِه مُرهقًا، مُنهكَ القُوى، مُضطربًا قلقًا، لا يفكِّرُ إلا فيما يواجِهُه من همومٍ ومشكلاتٍ تُحيطُ به، أو ربما ما سوف يظهر له من مُشكلاتٍ وهمومٍ بالمستقبل المجهول.
دخل غرفته ولم يهمَّ بتغير ملابسه، ولكن ألقى بجسده على الأريكةِ أمام التلفاز، ثم أمسك بجهاز التحكم اللا سلكي ، وبدأ يتنقَّلُ من محطةٍ إلى أخرى بلا وجهةٍ مُعينةٍ.
لم يبالِ بما يُشاهِدْهُ من ثرثرةٍ على شاشة التلفاز، استمرَّ على تلك الحال فترة من الزمن، ثم ضغط على زر الإغلاق، وبدأ ينظر في أنحاء غُرفتِه يمينًا ويسارًا بلا هدفٍ.
وفجأةً ظهر له بوجهِه القبيح لأولِ مرةٍ، وللأسف لن تكون الأخيرة.
تكررت زيارة ذي الوجهِ القبيح مرة تلو الأخرى، كان يفاجئُه بزيارتِه دون سببٍ أو مُناسبةٍ وكان كلما رآه بدت له الحياة وكأنها تسير ببطءٍ، بل ربما لا تسير أصلًا، وكأن الكون برمَّتِه توقَّف من حوله.
