فعند ولادة طفل فلا يستطيع أي إنسان أن يتنبأ له بأي شيء لا بأنه سوف يعيش طويلًا أم قصيرًا، غنيًّا أم فقيرًا، أميرًا أم غفيرًا، طيبًا أم شريرًا، ولكن يستطيع التَّنبؤ له أنه سوف يموت في ساعة مُقدَّرة له.
لا أحد يستطيع أن يشعر بالارتياح إذا قيل له إنه سيعيش ويموت كأي شيء يموت في الدنيا، فالموت ينطوي على كثير من المفارقات والتناقضات، وهو أيضًا موضوع كريه مُزعج لا يُشجِّع على التفكير فيه أو الحديث عنه، والظاهر أن الناس قد فطنوا إلى ذلك من قديم الزمان، فنراهم قد دأبوا على نسيان الموت أو تناسيه بشتى الحيل والأساليب؛ ولذلك يرى بعض المفكرين أن الحياة ما هي إلا الموت نفسه، لأن الإنسان يشرع في الموت بمجرد أن يولد وهذه الفترة المحدودة التي يحياها هي المدة التي تستغرقها عملية وفاته...
فالإنسان لا يحيا إلا وهو يموت ..
