•يركز على فهم المبادئ الكامنة وراء الأسلوب أو الممارسة.
•يدرس المادة بدون تحديد أدوات أو منهجيات بعينها.
•يدرس المادة مع افتراض أن القارئ لا يتمتع بالقدرة على الوصول إلى قوالب تنظيمية أو منهجيات.
•يقدم خريطة ملخصة عن الأفكار الرئيسية الموجودة في نهاية كل فصل، وأظهرت الأبحاث أن هذا النوع من منهج "الخرائط الذهنية" يمكن أن يحفز الذاكرة على استعادة المعلومات بالمقارنة بمناهج التلخيص المخطط لها والتقليدية.
