هناك حكاية هندية توضح قصور وجهات النظر الشخصية، وخلاصة الحكاية أنه كان هناك ستة أشخاص عميان يريدون معرفة شكل الفيل الذي لم يروه قط من قبل, فاقتربوا من أحد الأفيال ولمس كل واحد منهم جزءًا منه، وكون كل منهم فكرته بناء على الجزء الذي لمسه فقط (لمس أحدهم جسم الفيل ولمس آخر الناب، وآخر لمس القدم وآخر لمس الذيل، إلى آخره). وعندما قدم كل منهم وصفه، وجدوا أنهم غير متفقين بالمرة في تصوير شكل الفيل؛ فقال أحدهم إنه يشبه الثعبان، وقال آخر إنه يشبه الرمح وقال آخر إنه يشبه العمود، وهكذا. والمغزى من الحكاية هو أن كل وجهات نظرنا صالحة، ولكن لا يملك أي أحد صورة كاملة حول الموقف، أما إذا عملنا معًا وأدمجنا وجهات نظرنا، فسنستطيع الاقتراب من الحقيقة.
