كنتُ طفلاً حينما راودتني أول قصيدة عن نفسها ،لا اعرف السلطان الذي حرضني إلى ذلك النفاذ من أقطار السموات والأرض،ما إن انتهيت ارتكاب ذلك الوزر الطفولي حتى شعرت وكأني أكبر طفل في ذلك الفصل أو أطفل شاعرٍ خارج أسوار الرتابة ، وإذ بمعلم العلوم يقف على رأسي كحاجب النور يسألني تلاوتها جهارا فوق صوت الربكة ، وقفت شطر وجوه أولئك الصبية أقرأ عليهم الركاكة التي لم أخشها حتى طلب مني حاجب النور العودة إلى ظلام طاولة حديدية صغيرة ليطلب مني ألا أكتب الشعر وازرة أخرى،ذلك لم يمنعني العصيان خلف اسم مستعار لمنتصف الثلاثينات ( عبدالله الهامس ) وكأني أردت أن أشيح بالأنظار عن قبلتي أو بالأسماع عن تلاواتي،حتى قاطعني طفل يشبهني في تحياتي :بابا أنا أحمد بن عبدالله الهامس ؟ فقلت: بل أنت أحمد بن عبدالله البُراق .
