"غادرت أخيرًا (شقة الهرم) ميممًا شطرى نحو المركز، نحو وسط البلد، كم أحب تلك الأبنية العامرة بالنقوش والنتوءات والنخاريب! أراها أعشاشًا لأرواح من عشقوا وغادروا، مثلما سأفعل حتمًا يومًا ما.
شىء ما يجعلنى مدمنًا للتجوال فى شوارعها المغموسة فى الذكريات والصمت الصاخب، شىء ما حولنى من قضبان إلى قطار، لم أعد سليمًا تمامًا كما كنت، لم أعد بريئًا دامعًا مذعورًا كما السابق، شىء ما احتلنى وحولنى من فريسة إلى صياد، وكما تُنتزع المسرة من أشخاص وتمنح نفسها لآخرين، منحت نفسى وعن طيب خاطر لهذا النداء الخافت، استجبت للغريزة الروحية بلا مماطلة، عشقت الظلام والوحدة.
هناك فى وسط البلد ستسمع حتمًا أصواتًا تستغيث وتتمنى لو عاد الزمن دقيقة واحدة للوراء، سأحكى لكم عن أشخاص وكيانات وحوادث فيها الضحك مقرون بالدموع، وفيها الأمان متزاوج مع الهلع، ولكن باختصار وتخبط، فليس لدىَّ وقت لأضيعه فى التنسيق والترتيب، خذوا منى الخيوط وأنسجوها ملبسًا على مقاسكم، فكل الأحداث تتلاحم مع كل التواريخ بلا فواصل ولا هوامش، فقط أنا وشقتى وهلاوسى وسلطتى التى لم أعرف أبدًا كيف أضبط مقاسها على كتفى. بالفعل كانت لى حكايات مريعة فى .... وسط البلد.
