في الثالث عشر من نوفمبر عام 2015، قُتلت زوجة "أنطوان لاريس"، "هيلينا مويال لاريس"، هي و88 آخرين في مسرح "باتاكلان" بباريس، عندما قام ثلاثة رجال مسلحون بإطلاق النار وإلقاء القنابل على الجمهور بحفل لموسيقى الروك. وبعدها بثلاثة أيام قام الصحفي الشاب "لاريس" بكتابة خطاب مفتوح موجه مباشرة لقتلة زوجته، حيث قام بنشره على "الفيسبوك". العالم كله كان في حالة حداد بعد حادث الهجوم على باريس، ولكن "لاريس" رفض حالة التخويف المنتشرة، ورفض أن يترك حياة ابنه ذي السنة والنصف تنهار بسبب جريمة قتل أمه. رفض أن يجعل القتلة ينتصرون عليهم أكثر من هذا، حيث كتب عن ابنه قائلًا: "طالما هو على قيد الحياة، سيتحداكم هذا الطفل الصغير بسعادته وحريته". كما قال: "لا أعرف من أنتم ولا أريد أن أعرف، أنتم أرواح ميتة... كل رصاصة في جسد زوجتي هي جرح في قلبه". وعلى الفور، تلقى ما كتبه على "الفيسبوك" شعبية واسعة، وتمت مشاركته لأكثر من مائتي ألف مرة، وتحدث عنه الجميع في الصحف وبرامج التليفزيون في جميع أنحاء العالم.
"لاريس" صحفي بشبكة الراديو الفرنسي "فرانس بلو". قرر أن يوجه رسالة إلى المسلحين الذين قتلوا زوجته "هيلين مويال" ذات الخمس وثلاثين عامًا بأنه لن يحمل الكره لمن قاموا بذلك رغم ما فعلوه. لذا تم إصدار الكتاب بكل التفاصيل.
