"قبل مائة عام تعرضت قرية طورباراز الأرمنية إلى النفي القسري والتهجير تحت بنادق الجندرمة العثمانية. سلسلة الآلام والمصير المجهول هو نصيب كوهار، الفتاة الأرمنية التي تدور حول حياتها هذه الرواية، حيث يسقط والدها مقتولاً في البرية، بينما تنفصل هي عن شقيقيها ووالدتها فلا تعرف عن مصيرهم شيئاً. إنها رحلة العذاب والمآسي التي ضربت بشعب الأرمن زمن الحرب الكبرى، حيث شهدت كوهار فصولاً عديدة من الأحداث الدموية في الطريق إلى المصير المجهول، حتى قسى قلبها على ابنتها التي أنجبتها من رجل غريب. بعد سنين تعثر كوهار على شقيقها الأكبر هوسيب، وشقيقها الأصغر كريكور اللذين كبرا في منزل الشيخ غازي، وهو العربي المسلم، الذي يقطن قرب مدينة الموصل. كيف جرت هذه الأحداث الرهيبة، كيف عاشتها كوهار؟.
هذه الرواية ليست رواية تاريخية عن مذبحة الأرمن وهجرتهم القسرية إلى العراق، إنما عن الطبيعة البشرية، عن هشاشة الإنسانية، عن القسوة والرعب والترهيب، وهي أيضاً، عن التسامح، والمصالحة، والمحبة التي يغدقها البشر للغرباء.
