هذا الكتاب موضوع التحقيق والدراسة والتعليق هو من تأليف الفيلسوف الإسلامي الحديث محمد مهدي بن أبـي ذر النراقي (ت1209هـ/1794م)، والذي نكشف فيه ومن خلاله لأول مرّة الوجه الفلسفي العميق للفلسفة الإسلامية بعد ابن رشد (ت595هـ/ 1298م)، وندحض ما قاله المستشرقون ومن تابعهم من أن الفلسفة الإسلامية قد توقفت بل انتهت بوفاة ابن رشد، أو في أحسن الأحوال بوفاة ابن خلدون (ت808هـ/ 1406م)، وأنه لا يوجد هناك فيلسوف إسلامي بعدهما يمكن أن يعتدّ به وجدير بالدرس والبحث.
عليه، أقول إني وجدت أن الفلسفة الإسلامية بعد ابن رشد ومن خلال الفيلسوف النراقي وغيره من الفلاسفة الإسلاميين المحدثين من الذين سبقوه من أمثال صدر الدين الشيرازي (ت979هـ/1571م)، ومحمد باقر الداماد (ت1040هـ/1631م)، أو من جاء من بعد النراقي من أمثال الملا هادي السبزاوري (ت1212هـ/1797م)، تشكل برأينا ورأي كل منصف ومدقق لتاريخ الفلسفة، أنها فلسفة لم تنقطع عن الاستمرار في التأليف النسقي المنظم والمعمق لأكبر مشكلات الفلسفة عبر تاريخها الطويل. وإن أخذت وجهتها هذه المرة نحو الشرق بدلاً من المغرب العربـي.
