هذه الرواية تدور أحداثها في ستينيات القرن العشرين , حيث ترصد رحلة الطبيب " ناجي " اليهودي الأخير ، الذي يرفض أن يترك العراق بعد تعرض اليهود لمضايقات وأحداث عنف راح ضحيتها كثير منهم , ففروا - في هجرة جماعية - إلى إسرائيل و أوروبا , ورغم إصرار " ناجي " على البقاء , إلا أنه يصبح هدفا للمتصرف الذي يتهمه بتأليب الفلاحين ضد الحكومة , لتبدأ رحلة هروب الطبيب اليهودي , تلك الرحلة التي تضع نهاية لكوابيس الليل التي طالما قضت مضجعه .
