بالقطع ليس مسموحا لأى من الكهنة -مهما بلغت درجته الكهنوتية- أن يبوح بأسراره، ولو فى هيئة مذكرات ستدفن مع جثمانه الطيب. لكن الحقيقة المؤلمة قد تستدعي أن يحبس كاهن مثلى نفسه، كى يكتب عن مستقبل مدينة الرب التى يقصدها مئات المريدين كل يوم، ليست الحقيقة وحدها، لكنه الثقل الزائد على القلب، فمنذ خمسة عشر عاما -حين أودعنى والدي باب المعبد فأغلق خلفي- وتجمعات النساجين والنحاتين وملامح البيوت والشوارع ما تزال محفورة فى ذهني. قد أكون نسيتها قليلا بعدما ملأتني هالة القداسة المحيطة بالكاهن "رح عوم" حين قال: "عليك أن تنسى الخارج تماما، وأن تذوب فى روح الحقيقة، روح المعرفة للإله "أشمون"، عليك أن تغلق فمك وتفسح قدر ما تستطيع من قلبك لنور أسراره المقدسة. أسرار "أشمون" لا تخرج أبعد من جدران صدرك، ولا يتردد صداها خارج هذا القفص الصغير".
كانت يده تضرب بعنف مخالب صقر عجوز -على جدران صدري. لم أكن أعرف ساعتها معنى الحقيقة، ولا أن الباب الذي أغلق خلفى لن يفتح حتى بالموت. لكننى أدركت أن هذه الردهات المليئة بالصمت والظلمة سوف تتكشف نوراً حين ظأنسى النور الذى يملأ بيوت "أشمون" وحقولها، وأننى سأصبح حجراً فى معبد الإله العظيم وسراً من أسراره الكثيرة.
"كهنة آمون روع يريدون الحقيقة، فعليك أن تغلقها بآلاف الرموز والطلاسم حتى لا يصعدون أعداوؤك على كتفيك".
هذا ما وعت عيناى على جدران المذبح حين دخلته أول مرة، وأوقفني الكاهن المقدس وقال: ما اسمك ياغلام؟ كان المعلمون بالأمس قد لقنوني اسما غير الذى أعرف منذ طفولتي فقلت "سفر أشمون" لحظتها رأيت الدم يتدفق على ساعديه وآلاف الحيات تخرج من قدميه بينما مطرقة تنزل من السماء كي تخسف رأسي.
رأيت عينه المليئة بالخواء كحارس للقبور والصمت تقول "أشمون لا يعرف الحمقى فلا تعط اعداءك سلاح موتك". مازلت أذكر صوته للآن، وكأنه يأتي من الجحيم، وكأن العقارب ماتزال تتقافز من فمه، وكأننى ما زلت ذلك الطفل الذى مازال يطالع التعاليم على جدران المذبح.
