يضطر عبود جرجس إلى الهجرة من مصر مخلفاً وراءه زوجته مرام وابنه الوحيد ماجد. يرسل لهما عبود ما لا يكفيهما من الأموال عبر صديقته القديمة الفنانة مهرة عبد الجليل التي انفصلت عن زوجها مصطفى نور الدين، ضابط الجيش. تعتزل مهرة الفن وترتدي الحجاب وتخسر تحويشة العمر في مغامرة توظيف أموال، ويحال مصطفى إلى الاستيداع كضحية للاسترخاء العسكري لأن أكتوبر آخر الحروب، ولا يجد ملاذاً سوى المسجد.
وجوه من رحلة التعب المصري. مغتربون في مجهول الخارج وغرباء في غير معلوم الداخل. مخلوقات تطل علينا عبر حكاية الخسارة التي يدفع ثمنها الجميع. تناجينا، تحكي لنا، تأخذنا إلى شوارع مصر الخلفية، إلى المسكوت عنه في المشهد المصري. ها هي العلاقة الملتبسة بين المسلمين والأقباط، حيث الإشكالية الغائبة في النص الروائي المصري برغم حضورها الطافح في واقع الحياة في بر مصر، تطل علينا عبر أصوات المهزومين.
"قسمة الغرماء" رواية تشتبك مع مصر الراهنة عبر كتابة لا تنقصها شجاعة المواجهة. وهي رواية ذات طرح ونفس جديدين، تحاول الاقتراب من شروخ الروح التي أصابت المصريين وواجهتهم بالسؤال المخيف: ما الذي أوصلنا إلى المربع الأخير؟ وما الذي جعل مستقبل هذه البلاد وراءها وحوّلها إلى شظايا وأطلال لما كان؟
