وكثير من هذه المعالم لها صلة وثيقة العرى بأدبنا العربي حيث ذكرها الشعراء في شعرهم وخلدها الأدباء والكتاب في مؤلفاتهم حدث حولها معارك في الجاهلية والإسلام، وحددت بها منازل القبائل ومعالم الطرق فكان من حقوق أبناء هذا الجيل علينا أن يعرفوها ولو عن طريق الوصف والصورة وإنك لتعجب كف أن بعض الرحالة الأجانب الذين رحلوا إلى جزيرة العرب مطلع هذا القرن واكتشفوا صحراءها وجاسوا خلالها يعرفونها أكثر معرفة من معرفة أهلها بها كالليدي آن بلنت وداوتي وهوبر وأوتبنغ وفلبي ... إلخ. ونحن أحق بذلك وأولى وينبغي أن يكون صاحب البيت أدرى بالذي فيه. ولعل الناظر في هذا الكتاب يعرف أنني لم آت بجديد بل اقتفيت آثار مشايخي وجريت على مناهجهم ووطئت مواقع أقدامهم أقتبس من لأنوارهم وأجتني من ثمارهم. فقصارى أمري أنني أجمع أقوالهم فاختصر المطول، وأوضح المبهم وأختار مما اختلف في تحديده وتباينت الأقوال في تعيينه ما أرى أقرب للصواب وأدنى للحقيقة بعد زيارته وتطبيق أقوال السابقين في وصفه ونعته.
