يتوغل هذا الكتاب في عالم مظلم مخيف. فهو يتناول باستفاضة لم يسبق لها مثيل، تاريخ القوات الفدائية لمنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية، التي تم تسجيلها تحت اسم منظمة "أيلول الأسود"، والتاريخ الدامي للشرق الأوسط. كما أن هذا الكتاب تعمق داخل أسرار فرق الانتقام التابعة لجهاز الموساد الإسرائيلي. ومحور الأحداث يدور حول رئيس منظمة "أيلول الأسود" "علي حسن سلامة"، وغريمه في الموساد مايك هاراري، وعميلة شابة تدعى "اريكا ماريا تشامبرز"، وهي إنكليزية تم تكليفها بمهمة اغتيال علي حسن سلامة. ولم يستطع الموساد بعميلاته اصطياد زعيم هذه المنظمة وأتباعه ومعاونيه في العملية الانتحارية الشهيرة أثناء دورة الألعاب الأولمبية في ميونيخ، إلا بعد سبع سنوات متواصلة من التخطيط والرصد السري المثير. إذ أن القصة لم تكن قد وصلت بعد إلى نهايتها عندما وقع علي حسن سلامة أخيراً كضحية "لأريكا تشامبرز" حيث أقسمت منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية على الانتقام وأرادت أن يتم تنفيذه في ألمانيا ونشأت من هنا فترة مجهولة الى حد ما من التاريخ الألماني المعاصر حيث وجد تعاون من طرف واحد بين منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية والمخبرين الألمان. وقد فشلت إحدى المحاولات لاغتيال اريكا تشامبرز في قبرص. إذ اغتالت منظمة التحرير سيدة أخرى. كل هذا يعد جزءاً من المأساة التي لا تنتهي في الشرق الأوسط – لعبة التبادل الأبدية بين الانتقام ورد الفعل له، بين الكراهية والمعاناة ونتيجة لذلك، ربما يمكن أن تكون هناك مباحثات سلام حقيقية، على شرط الغفران من الطرفين، والمحاولة لاعتدال بعيد المدى.
