هذا العمل ترجمة لكتاب Medieval Islamic Pragmatics الذي صدر سنة 2000، ونشرته دار النشر كيرزون برس Curzon Press التي اندمجت مع روتلدج Routledge ثم انصهرا معا في شركة تيلور وفرانيسس Taylor & Fransic؛ ولذا لن يستغرب القارئ الذي يرغب في الاطلاع على النسخة الإنجليزية من الكتاب أن يجد عنوان الكتاب مرتبطا بأي من دور النشر المذكورة. يتناول الكتاب المناهج التخاطبية في علم الأصول، متبعا في مناقشة تلك المناهج نهجا لسانيا استثمرت فيه النظريات البراغماتية الحديثة التي تعنى بمسألتي اللغة، والتخاطب. ويرمي الكتاب إلى صوغ الأصول والنظريات اللغوية التي تبعثرت أجزاؤها وفروعها في كتب الأصول، وغاب عنها السياق النظري الشمولي، والإطار العام الذي يوجه، ويفسر تلك الأجزاء والفروع. وقد تطلب صوغ تلك الأصول قراءة معمقة ودقيقة للأصول الفلسفية الوجودية منها والمعرفية التي تنبثق عنها النظريات اللغوية للأصوليين. لقد أثمر هذا التلاقح بين الدرس الأصولي والدرس اللساني نشأة علم جديد يمكن تسميته بعلم التخاطب الإسلامي، وقد شرعنا في هذا الكتاب في وضع قواعد الأساس لهذا العلم، الذي استمدت مادته من التبصرات العلمية التي خلفها لنا الأصوليون في مجالات اللغة، وتحليل الخطاب والنص، والفلسفة، والمنطق.
