عبد الستار جواد (ولد في 10 أبريل 1943) عراقي المولد, أستاذ في الأدب المقارن ودراسات الشرق الأوسط في جامعة ديوك.
كان زميل في باركسديل في جامعة ميسيسيبي كلية الشرف. وقبل ذلك كان أستاذاً زائراً في قسم اللغة والأدب الإنجليزي والأمريكية في جامعة هارفارد وكان مع مركز جون هوب فرانكلين المتعدد التخصصات للدراسات الدولية في جامعة ديوك.
حصل على دكتوراه في الأدب الإنجليزي والصحافة من جامعة سيتي في لندن(المملكة المتحدة). عن تدريس اللغة العربية و اللغة الإنجليزية وآدابها، وهو خبير في أعمال ت. س. إليوت و وليام شكسبير.
وكان قد ترجم عمل إليوت "الأرض اليباب" إلى اللغة العربية و نشرها في كتابه: ت. س. إليوت في بغداد ، دراسة في تأثير إليوت على حركة الشعر الحر في العراق و العالم العربي عام 2014.
وهو أيضاً خبير في الإعلام العراقي والأوساط الأكاديمية.
وقد كتب 15 كتاب في الأدب و الإعلام و تحرير بعض المجلات الأدبية والصحف في اللغة الإنجليزية والعربية. وقبل أن يأتي إلى الدوق كان عميد كلية الآداب جامعة بغداد ومحرر مرآة بغداد.

يأتي ''فن كتابة الأخبار'' تلبية لحاجة المحررين والمراسلين والصحفيين العاملين في شؤون الأخبار إلى كتاب حديث في فن التحرير الصحفي وصناعة الأخبار يعالج القوالب الصحفية الحديثة التي ظهرت في الصحافة العالمية والعربية واستقرت في أقسام الأخبار وقاعات التحرير أنماطا راسخة جاءت نتيجة لسنوات طوال من ممارسة صنعة الكتابة الصحفية ومعالجة الأحداث بأساليب جديدة متنوعة تتناغم مع إيقاع العصر وتحول الذوق العام وتطور الفن الصحفي. وقد زاد من رغبتنا في تأليف هذا الكتاب أن ما صدر في العربية من كتب تعالج التحرير الصحفي، قد تقادم زمنها واستهلكت انماطها ولم تعد تلبي طموح كتاب الأخبار ودارسيها. ومعظم كتب التحرير في مكتباتنا العربية جاءت على يد الرواد الذين كان لهم فضل الريادة في نقل طرائق التحرير وقوالبه فأسسوا بذلك قواعد هذا الفن في الصحافة العربية على غرار ما وجدوه في الممارسات الصحفية وكتب الأخبار في ذلك العهد بحيث يمكن القول إن عملية التحرير الصحفي لدينا اليوم، في قوالبها وأساليبها المبسوطة في الكتب العربية لم تتجاوز فترة الثلاثينيات في الصحافة الأوروبية.
