تتسم الظواهر الفكرية بصبغة معقدة ومتشابكة، كما أن نمو الأفكار والمذاهب قريب الشبه جدا بنمو الكائنات الحية ذات الأطوار المتعددة بل ربما كان أعقد من ذلك لما يعتري الأفكار والمذاهب من التداخل والتركيب والامتزاج وما يقارنها من ردود الأفعال والتأثيرات النفسية والتقلبات الفكرية، وثمة دلائل وشواهد عدة تثبت أن الاتجاهات الفكرية كثيرا ما يسهم في انتشارها أمزجة أفراد وأمزجة أمة وإقليم ما. وإذا تناولنا مصر كنموذج بارز في هذا الصدد فثمة أسئلة عديدة تستحق الوقوف أمامها ومنها: لماذا وفدت جل المذاهب الكلامية لمصر ولم تنشأ بها؟ !، ولماذا كتب للمذهب الأشعري الانتشار الواسع بمصر ؟ !، ولماذا لم تستطيع الدولة الفاطمية ترسيخ فكرها الشيعي الإسماعيلي رغم بقائها قرنين من الزمان؟ !، ولماذا لم تجد المذاهب الغالية كالخوارج تربة ملائمة وقبولا وانتشارا كبيرا بين المصريين؟ ! ولماذا وجدت المذاهب القائمة على حب الأشخاص والتعلق بهم، سواء أكانوا من أهل البيت، أو ممن يظن فيهم التقوى والصلاح قبولا واسعا وانتشارا كبيرا بين المصريين ؟ !
