ان دراسة تراثنا الثقافي الذي كان سائدا قبل اكتشاف النفط من الأمور التي يجب أن يهتم بها الدارسون والمهتمون بمجال حفظ وجمع التراث الشعبي، وذلك لما للموضوع من أهمية قصوى ناجمة عن بوادر تشير إلى إختفاء ذلك التراث لأسباب عديدة من أهمها التغيرات السريعة التي تتعرض لها مجتمعاتنا الخليجية سواء كانت على المستوى التكنولوجي أو الثقافي أو الاقتصادي .. الخ .. ان محتويات الثقافة المحلية قد هبت عليها رياح التغيير لدرجة تكاد تطمس جذورها القريبة العهد.... من هذا المنطلق جاءت هذه الدراسة كمحاولة لجمع نوع معين من التراث وإخضاعه للتحليل والمقارنة للخروج بتصور واضح عن ذلك التراث ألا وهو مجال الاحتفالات الجماعية في المجتمع القطري وسنتطرق في هذه الدراسة إلى احتفالات طحن ودق الحبوب السنوية. وفي البداية فإننا نوجه الشكر إلى الإخباريات اللاتي ساهمن بشكل أساسي في إثراء الدراسة بالمعلومات اللازمة وكان لهن الفضل في إخراج هذه الدراسة بما ادخرته ذاكرتهن من ذلك التراث وذكرياتهن عن تلك الاحتفالات. وتتكون دراستنا من مقدمة وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة. ويشرح الفصل الأول أساليب العمل التي كان المجتمع يعتمد عليها في طحن ودق الحبوب والمظهر الاحتفالي المرافق لتلك الظاهرة. أما الفصل الثاني فإنه عبارة عن تحليل للوظائف الاجتماعية والثقافية لتلك الاحتفالات، ونقدم في الفصل الثالث تحليل لعمليات التداخل بين أجزاء التراث الشعبي وفروعه المختلفة وأثر ذلك على فنون دق وطحن الحبوب، ثم نقدم خاتمة للدراسة نشير فيها إلى أهمية جمع مادة هذا الجانب من التراث الذي لم يشهد حتى الآن أي محاولات جادة في هذا المجال.
