الحوار بين الأمهات والبنات الراشدات قد يكون من أفضل الحوارات أو أسوئها على الإطلاق. مجرد تعليق أو ملاحظة من ابنتك أو أمك يكون وقعها أكثر تشجيعا أو إيلاما من أن تأتي من شخص آخر. العلاقة بين الأمهات والبنات بالمعنى الحرفي هي ''أم كل العلاقات'' هي من أقوى العواطف في حياة النساء، مصدر أعمق أنواع الحب وأعمق أنواع الغضب –حتى الكره- الذي تتعرض له معظم النساء. إنها تضعنا وجها لوجه مع الصورة المنعكسة لأنفسنا، وتجبرنا على مجابهة أسئلة جوهرية عمّن نحن بالضبط ومن نريد أن نكون، وما العلاقة التي تربطنا بالآخرين داخل عائلاتنا وخارجها. إن علاقة الأم بابنتها تستمر في الاحتفاظ بقوة عظيمة خلال حياتنا –نحن البنات- حتى بعد بلوغنا وما بعد ذهاب أمهاتنا، وما بعد بلوغ البنات سن الرشد، وفي بعض الحالات ((بلوغ الأمهات أنفسهن)). إن الكلمات المتبادلة بين الأم وابنتها في اللحظة أو في الذاكرة من الممكن أن تحمل وزنا كبيرا. في كتابي ((أنت لا تفهمني)) بينت كيف من الممكن للمرأة والرجل أن ينتهوا من حوار وبفترقوا بأفكار مختلفة تماما عما قد قيل وما عنى به في الحقيقة. والشيء ذاته في الحوار بين الأمهات والبنات الراشدات، بالرغم من أن كليهما من النساء، وأنهما في جوانب كثيرة يتكلمن اللغة نفسها – اللغة التي يتم التفاوض بها باستمرار على الآلفة والانغلاق والقوة والتفوق. إن تحسين وسائل التواصل والتفاهم بين الأم وابنتها تماما كما بين الرجل والمرأة يتطلب كل ما سبق. إن التفهم هو أن نرى المسألة من منظور الطرف الآخر. وفي هذا الكتاب أحاول أن أوفر التفهم والاقتراحات الواقعية لتحسين الحوار بين الأم وابنتها ومن ثم تحسين العلاقة.... خرج هذا الكتاب ((هل ستلبسبن هذا؟)) من كتابي الأخير ((أنت لا تفهمني)) الذي بدوره كان نتيجة الكتاب الذي سلفه وهو كتابي الأول ((ليس هذا ما قصدت)) وكان للجمهور العام. في هذا الكتاب قدمت مفهومي لأسلوب الحوار العام. ووضحت قوته في مختلف النواحي في حياتنا اليومية. من بين فصول الكتاب العشرة فإن الفصل الوحيد الذي قد نال معظم الاهتمام وأكثر الإجابات حماسة هو الفصل المكرس للحوارات بين الرجل والمرأة. هذا قادني إلى أن أغير بحثي إلى موضوع : ((الاتصال بين الذكر والأنثى)) ولكتابة كتاب ((أنت لا تفهمني)) : الرجال والنساء في حوار.
