يتحدث الكاتب في هذا الكتاب عن أطراف الصراع السياسي في الستينات والسبعينات ويحددها في طرفين أساسيين هما جبهة التحرير الوطني والجبهة الشعبية واللجنة التأسيسية (لعمال البحرين) من جهة والإدارة البريطانية ومعها الإدارة المحلية من جهة أخرى. وعن طبيعة الصراع الدائر بين هذين الطرفين كان اعتماد الكاتب على الوثائق البريطانية جليا وواضحا حيث كشفت الوثائق مدى تركيز الإدارة البريطانية على التخلص من هذه القوى المناوئة للوجود البريطاني في البحرين وفي الخليج العربي والكيفية التي يتم فيها ملاحقتها وضربها. لكن هذا النضال تتوج في نهاية المطاف في طرح مشروع للديمقراطية الجزئية على الطريقة الكويتية. ويتطرق الكاتب إلى الأسباب الحقيقية لحل المجلس الوطني وتعطيل الحياة النيابية فيكشف سر تواطؤ الإدارة البريطانية مع القيادة السياسية في التخلص من هذه التجربة الوليدة وذلك استنادا على المعلومات التي كشفتها وثائق عام 1975 و 1976. ما يزيد من أهمية هذا الكتاب هو ما تشهده الساحة السياسية في الوقت الحاضر من تداع للوضع السياسي مقارنة بما كان عليه الوضع في السبعينيات ونجاح السلطة في إحياء التاريخ الخلافي الطائفي الذي قضت عليه الهيئة التنفيذية العليا في بداية الخمسينات ونقل الصراع الطائفي داخل البرلمان الصوري وذلك على إثر التخلص من جميع اللاعبين السياسيين وبروز السلطة كلاعب وحيد في الساحة. هذا الكتاب هو مساهمة قيمة في التوثيق لحقبة مهمة من تاريخ هذا الشعب المناضل وقد نجح الكاتب في نقل الكثير من الأحداث الحقيقية والمشاهد الصادقة وبالخصوص فيما يتعلق بالأحداث التي عايشها خلال مزاولة نشاطه السياسي مع رفاقه من المناضلين.
