يوسف القعيد أديب وقصاص مصري معاصر ولد في محافظة البحيرة. اهتم بالتعبير عن المحيط القروي المصري وما يتصل به من قضايا وعرف بنبرته السياسية الناقدة عرضت بعض أعماله للمصادرة. يعتبر يوسف القعيد من رواد الرواية في مرحلة ما بعد نجيب محفوظ الذي ربطته به علاقة متينة. حصل على جائزة الدولة التقديرية في الآداب سنة 2008 وحازت روايته "الحرب في بر مصر" المرتبة الرابعة ضمن أفضل مائة رواية عربية.

ما الذي حدث في القرية المصرية بعد الثورة؟ موضوع يلح على ضمير الشباب ويؤرقهم ويدفعهم إلى تأمل قريتهم التي يحبونها والتي يحاولون أن يصلوا إلى أسباب تخلفها برغم الآمال الكبيرة التي عقدت على إصلاحها وبرغم المحاولات الجادة التي بذلت حتى اليوم. لقد قضت الثورة على الإقطاع بقانون ولكن رواسب الإقطاع تحتاج إلى أعوام ويطيل هذه الأعوام ما لا يزال يجثم على صدر القرية من فقر وجهل. و" أخبار عزبة المنيسي" ليست المحاولة الأول "لمحمد يوسف القعيد" ليعبر عن رؤيته لقريته، فقد أصدر منذ عدة سنوات روايته "الحداد" التي لفتت بأسلوبها وبموضوعها أنظار الكثيرين وأثارت بينهم نقاشا طويلا، ولا ترتبط الروايتان بأية رابطة إلا في إشارة بسيطة إلى أن الحاج هبة الله المنيسي صاحب القرية حزن يوم عرف بموت الحاج منصور أبو الليل عمدة الضهرية وهو الشخصية المحورية في رواية "الحداد"، ثم إشارة عابرة أخرى عندما يقارن صفوت في رواية "أخبار عزبة المنيسي" نفسه بحامد ابن الحاج منصور أبو الليل في رواية "الحداد"، فكلاهما شاب وكلاهما كان يراد له أن يكون هو محرك الأحداث، اما حامد فقد تخاذل وابتعد وإن يكن صفوت يراه أكثر منه وضوحا، وأما صفوت فبالرغم من أنه جلب الشر على الجميع فإن المؤلف يجعلنا نرثى له. لقد أصبح يحس بسبب موقفه غصة في حلقه، هوانا يتمدد تحت أسنانه، حزنا ينتشر في صدره إلخ.. لا يستطيع أن يواصل في نهاية الأمر حياته، يجرها خلفه جرا".
