- إجلاء شعوب بكاملها من أوطانها - إعدام أكثر من عشرين ألف ضابط بولوني رميا بالرصاص - تصفية عشرات القياديين والعلماء ورجالات الفكر وكبار العسكريين من يقف وراء كل ذلك : جوزيف ستالين أم لافرنتي بيريا أم الجهاز الحزبي؟ هذا ما كان يجري في عهد ستالين؛ وهذا ما ألصق بلافرنتي بيريا عشية اعتقاله وإعدامه رميا بالرصاص، بعد محاكمة سرية، وفق ما تدعي الرواية الرسمية. من كان لافرنتي بيريا: جلاد البلاط أم الإصلاحي الكبير؟ لافرنتي بيريا الشخصية الأقرب إلى ستالين، ومسؤول المخابرات الاستراتيجية السوفياتية حتى وفاته، ووزير الداخلية والنائب الأول لرئيس مجلس الوزراء، وماريشال الاتحاد السوفياتي، وعضو هيئة رئاسة اللجنة المركزية للحزب الشيوعي، والذي غدا عقب موت ستالين الشخصية الأقوى في قيادة الكرملين. لافرنتي بيريا ذاك، يتولى ابنه سيرغو في هذا الكتاب المرافعة عنه، فيخوض في أصعب الملفات وأكثرها تعقيدا وسرية وتعتيما. يستعرض، من الوثائق، ما كان حقيقيا، وما جرى تزويره لطمس الحقائق. يقول سيرغو إن زملاء أبيه، وعلى رأسهم خروتشوف، نزعوا عنه كل ما حققه من إنجازات عظيمة مثل: - إشرافه الفاعل على صناعة السلاح النووي في الاتحاد السوفياتي. - تطهير مفوضية الداخلية، والإفراج عن ملايين المعتقلين ظلما. - تجنيد العملاء الأجانب، من علاء وسياسيين ورجال فكر وفن، لصالح الاتحاد السوفياتي، أمثال: - سيكيروس (الفنان المكسيكي العظيم) - زينوفي بيشكوف (رئيس المخابرات الفرنسية) - أولغا تشيخوفا (المقربة من إيفا براون صديقة هتلر) وألصقوا به بدل ذلك تهمة التآمر على الحزب الشيوعي والنظام الإشتراكي، ونسبوا إليه كل الجرائم والأحداث الدموية، ناهيك بمطاردة النسا اللواتي عددن بالمئات، على حد زعمهم. ملفات شائكة تطرح السؤال الأهم، من كان القاتل في ذلك النظام ومن كان الضحية؟
