توفيق حبيب: صحفي ومترجم مصري.
ولد «توفيق حبيب مليكة» في عام ١٨٨٠م في أسرة قبطية وتلقى تعليمًا تقليديًّا كأغلب أقرانه آنذاك.
استهوته الصحافة فعمل مخبرًا صحفيًا في البداية يجمع الأخبار ويسجلها، ثم بدء في كتابة سلسلة مقالات ﺑ «جريدة الأهرام» تحت عنوان «على الهامش» كان يوقعها باسم «الصحافي العجوز»، وقد تميز بأسلوب خاص يجمع بين السخرية والحكمة في أسلوب وعبارات بسيطة.
يعتبرحبيب من أوائل الأقباط المصريين الذين اشتغلوا بالصحافة، وقد ألف العديد من الكتب التي تهتم بأدب الرحلات وتصف أسفاره نذكر منها «شهران في أروبا» و«رحلة إكسبرس من إسكندرية وإستامبول» و«تذكار المؤتمر القبطي» وغيرها.
توفي توفيق حبيب في عام ١٩٤١م عن ستين عامًا قضى أربعين عامًا منها في بلاط صاحبة الجلالة (الصحافة).

يحمل كل إنسان بين أضلعه قصة أو أكثر تستحق أن تُحكى ويستمع إليها الآخرون، خطَّها بمداد العمر، وتكون التفاصيل الصغيرة التي تصنع لوحة الحياة المتشابكة بحلوها ومرها. بعض هذه القصص قد تبدو بسيطة مكررة رغم عظم حالها عند أصحابها، وبعضها الآخر يحفل بمفارقات وأحداث يصعب تصديق وقوعها. وقد اختار مؤلف الكتاب، أو «الصحافي العجوز» كما سمى نفسه، أن يجمع بعضًا من هذه القصص لنماذج متباينة وغريبة من البشر؛ منهم قاطعو طرق وطنيون، وموظفون حكوميون بسطاء تتشابه أيامهم، وعلماء خلدت كتبهم العظيمة سيرتهم في نفوس تلامذتهم. وأيضًا يحكي قصصًا عجيبة عن أغنياء مسهم الضر فأصبحوا بين عشية وضحاها يتكففون الناس العيش، وفقراء بائسين أغناهم الله في يومٍ وليلة. وقد صاغ «توفيق حبيب» هذه القصص بألفاظ سهلة وأسلوب رشيق يخلو من التعقيد.
