كتب الكثير عن الحروب الصليبية، أو ((حروب الفرنجة))، ومع ذلك تبقى بحاجة إلى تحليل وتعمق أكثر، وبخاصة بعد الإفراج عن وثائق جديدة لم تتطرق إليها الكتب السابقة. فالحروب التي انطلقت تلبية لنداء البابا ((أوربان الثاني)) سنة 1095 بدوافع بدأت دينية تهدف إلى الاستيلاء على بيت المقدس، اختلط فيها الديني بالدنيوي، وكشفت عن تناقض بينهما، فاحتل الفرنجة القسطنطينية المسيحية وعاثوا فيها فسادا وانشؤوا في شرق المتوسط إمارات مستقلة عن المملكة التي أقاموها في بيت المقدس، وحاولوا الاستيطان في المنطقة، حتى هيأ الله للمسلمين قادة مخلصين وحدوا صفوفهم، وطردوا الفرنجة من بلادهم بعد احتلال دام أكثر من مائتي سنة. ولكن هذه الحروب تركت أثرا كبيرا في نفوس الطرفين، واعتبر العالم الإسلامي عدوا للمسيحية منذ ذلك التاريخ، وكما استمات الفرنجة في السابق لمنع وحدة العالم الإسلامي، فهم يستميتون حاليا للمحافظة على تمزقه. وهذه الدراسة تختلف عن غيرها بتكثيف مادتها، وبتحليل موجز لأحداثها وآثارها، تشبع فضول المتطلع إلى معرفة أسباب تلك الحروب ونتائجها، وتصلح مرجعا للتدريس في الجامعات لاعتماد مؤلفها، المؤرخ والأستاذ الجامعي الحياد والدراسة الأكاديمية الموثقة.
