ميتشيو كاكو هو عالم مختص بمجال الفيزياء النظرية، ومتخصص في نظرية الحقل الوتري (بالإنجليزية: String field theory)، أيضا يشتغل كعالم مستقبليات.
ولد كاكو في سان جوزيه بولاية كاليفورنيا الأمريكية في 24 يناير عام 1947 من والدين يابانيين مهاجرين إلى الولايات المتحدة حيث ألتقى والده بأمه لأول مره في إحدى مخيمات الأعتقال التي احتجز فيها الأمريكيين من أصل ياباني وأنجبا اثنين من أخوته داخل المخيم حصل على درجة الدكتوراة في عام 1972.
كاكو يعشق تبسيط الفيزياء للجميع، ولذلك فإنه مضيف لبرنامجيين إذاعيين, وكتبه دائما من أعلى الكتب مبيعا.
حصل على جائزة نوبل في الفيزياء النظرية عن نظريته في الأوتار الفائقة.
نشرت له سلسلة عالم المعرفة الكويتية كتابين اثنين: "رؤى مستقبلية; كيف سيغير العلم مستقبلنا في القرن الواحد والعشرين", بالإضافة إلى كتاب "فيزياء المستحيل".

يعد الكاتب (ميشو كاكو هو ) واحد من الرواد في مجال الفيزياء النظرية، يجمع ميشيو كاكو في هذا الكتاب بين ترجمته لحياة أينشتاين وأعماله ليكشف لنا الكون كما رآه أينشتاين، ويمنحنا إطلالة لم يحظ بها الكثيرون على منهج أينشتاين في التفكير. حيث الجزء الأول من الكتاب الصورة التي تخيلها أينشتاين أول مرة عندما كان في السادسة عشرة من عمره: كيف يمكن أن يبدو شعاع الضوء إذا استطاع العدو بجواره، وهي الصورة التي كان قد استلهمها من أحد كتب الاطفال التي قراها، أما الجزء الثاني فيتعرض لصورة أخرى، وفيها تخيل أينشتاين الكواكب كأحجار مرمرية تتدحرج فوق سطح منحنى متمركز في قلب الشمس، في محاولة منه لتفسير فكرة أن الجاذبية تنبع من انحناء المكان والزمان، أما الجزء الثالث فلا يتناول أي صور، بل يركز بشكل أكبر على فشل أينشتاين في الخروج بتصور يؤدي لـ"نظرية المجال الواحد" الخاصة به، وهو التصور الذي كان سيمكن أينشتاين من تتويج الأبحاث المتعلقة بقوانين المادة والطاقة التي امتدت للألفي عام
