عندما كانت أوروبا تتخبط في ظلمات القرون الوسطى نَعِمَ العالم الإسلامي بالمستشفيات والأدوية والموسيقى الشجية، وعمل في بيت الحكمة جيش من المترجمين والعلماء الذين نقلوا حكمة الإغريق ومعارف الهند وعلوم الفرس إلى العربية.
وفي مطلع عصر النهضة كان الأوروبيون يرتدون الأقمشة العربية ويستمعون إلى موسيقاهم ويتعلمون من فلاسفة الأندلس، والأهم من كل هذا هو أن المسلمين علموا الغرب الأسلوب العلمي في التفكير والمنهج.
وهكذا انتشل الإسلام الغرب من القرون الوسطى ووضع أقدامه على عتبات عصر النهضة.
