ولد أحمد شفيق بهجت في 15 نوفمبر 1932 بالقاهرة، وتوفى 11 ديسمبر 2011متزوج وله ابنان, حصل على ليسانس حقوق من جامعة القاهرة.
كاتب صحفي عمل صحفيًا بجريدة أخبار اليوم (1955)، ومجلة صباح الخير (1957)، وجريدة الأهرام (1958) ثم رئيس مجلس الإدارة ورئيس تحرير مجلة الإذاعة والتليفزيون (1976)..
ونائب رئيس التحرير للشئون الفنية بجريدة الأهرام منذ (1982) يكتب عمود "صندوق الدنيا" بجريدة الأهرام.
عضو نقابة الصحفيين وله أكثر من عشرين مؤلفًا دينيًا وأدبيًا، منها: أنبياء الله، بحار الحب عند الصوفية، مذكرات صائم، مذكرات زوج، أحسن القصص، الطريق إلى الله، قميص يوسف، وغيرها.
له برنامج إذاعي يومي بعنوان: كلمتين وبس

يضم هذا الكتاب مجموعة من القصص القصيرة التى كتبت في فترة الستينات والسبعينات وسوف يلاحظ القارئ الذكي ان الكاتب متأثر في كثير من قصصه بروح أنطون تشيخوف. وخاصة في قصصه الساخرة. إن أبطال القصص محبطون وبعضهم يعرف السبب واكثرهم لا يدري شيئا عن علة الاحباط وسببه. أيضا يعيش معظم أبطال القصص في بؤ إنساني غامض لا يعرفون عنه شيئا انهم بؤساء لايعرفون انهم بؤساء.. وحظهم من الحب هو رؤيته في قاع الاحلام البعيدة. ورغم ذلك فهم مضحكون وينبع الاضحاك هنا من عدم إدراكهم للأزمة التى يعيشون فيها.
