ولد أحمد شفيق بهجت في 15 نوفمبر 1932 بالقاهرة، وتوفى 11 ديسمبر 2011متزوج وله ابنان, حصل على ليسانس حقوق من جامعة القاهرة.
كاتب صحفي عمل صحفيًا بجريدة أخبار اليوم (1955)، ومجلة صباح الخير (1957)، وجريدة الأهرام (1958) ثم رئيس مجلس الإدارة ورئيس تحرير مجلة الإذاعة والتليفزيون (1976)..
ونائب رئيس التحرير للشئون الفنية بجريدة الأهرام منذ (1982) يكتب عمود "صندوق الدنيا" بجريدة الأهرام.
عضو نقابة الصحفيين وله أكثر من عشرين مؤلفًا دينيًا وأدبيًا، منها: أنبياء الله، بحار الحب عند الصوفية، مذكرات صائم، مذكرات زوج، أحسن القصص، الطريق إلى الله، قميص يوسف، وغيرها.
له برنامج إذاعي يومي بعنوان: كلمتين وبس

في بحار التصوف ألف سؤال وسؤال، وألف غريق وغريق، وألف لؤلؤة ولؤلؤة، وألف محارة فارغة ومحارة مليئة بطين القاع.. وثمة حكايات لها العجب مثل حكايات الأساطير في ألف ليلة وليلة، وبدلًا من قصص الجن وعجائبه سنجد قصص الأولياء وكراماتهم، وهي أيضًا عجائب.. وهناك احتمال كبير أن نغرق في هذا البحر لو لم نكن نجيد السباحة.. أو نستخدم أدوات الملاحة الصحيحة.. نفرد أشرعة الروح البيضاء ونبحر..
ما دمنا نسبح في بحار القوم فلا مفر من استخدام أساليبهم في هذه البحار.. ولا بد أن نبدأ رحلتنا البحرية وأشرعتنا مفتوحة لكل الرياح القادمة من أبواب الكون.. ونريد عقلًا محايدًا قبل كل شيء.. لا نريد أحكامًا مسبقة أو أفكارًا جاهزة للحكم على التصوف قبل الخوض في أمواجه.
