هو أحمد بن محمد بن عبد الكريم بن عبد الرحمن بن عيسي بن عطاء الله السكندري، أحد أركَان الطريقة الطريقة الشاذلية الصوفية التي أسسها الشيخ أبو الحسن الشاذلي 1248 وخَلِيفتُه أبو العبَاس المرسي 1287
وَفد أجداده المَنسوبون إلى قَبيلةِ جذَام، إلى مصر بعد الْفتح الإسلامي واستوطنوا الإسكندرية حيث ولد ابن عطَاء الله حَوالي سنة 1260 ونَشأ كجدهِ لوَالده الّشيخ أبى مُحمد عبد الْ Ahmad Ibn 'Ata Allah al-Iskandari

وَفد أجداده المَنسوبون إلى قَبيلةِ جذَام، إلى مصر بعد الْفتح الإسلامي واستوطنوا الإسكندرية حيث ولد ابن عطَاء الله حَوالي سنة 1260 ونَشأ كجدهِ لوَالده الّشيخ أبى مُحمد عبد الْكريم بن عطَاء الله، فَقيهاً يَشتغلُ بالعُلومِ الشَرعية حيث تلقي منذ صباه العَلوم الدينية والشرعية واللغوية، وكان في هذا الطَور الأول من حيَاتِه ينُكر على الصوفية إنكارا شَديداً تعصباً منه لعلومِ الفقهَاءِ. فما أن صحب شيخه أبو العباس المرسي 1286 واستمع إليه بالإسكندرية حتى أعجب به إعجَأباً شديداً وأخذ عنه طريق الصوفية وأصبح من أوَائل مُريديه. حيث تَدرج ابن عطَاء في منَازلِ الْعلم والمَعرفةِ حتى تَنبأ له الشيخ أبو العبَاس يوماً فقَال له: (الزم، فو الله لئن لزمت لتكونن مُفتياً في الْمذهبين) يَقصدُ مَذهب أهل الحَقيقة وأهل العلم البَاطن.
أخذ عن ابن عطاء الله بعد ذلك الكثير من التلامذةِ منهم ابن المبلق السكندري، و تَقي الدين السبكى شيخ الشَافعية، وتوفي ابن عطاء ودفن بالقَاهرةِ عَام 1309. ولا يزال قَبره مَوجوداً إلى الآن بجبَانة سيدي على أبو الوفاء تحت جبل المُقطمِ من الجهةِ الْشرقية لجبَانة الإمام الليث
