تدور أحداث الرواية في عام 1990م داخل أزقة مدينة "بارابيرام" المظلمة، حيث القوانين تُكتب بالدماء، والعدالة مجرد وجه آخر للفساد.
(عمر)؛ ضابط مخلص وذكي، يُكلف بمهمة سرية خطيرة: اختراق واحدة من أعتى منظمات المافيا والتقرب من زعيمها الشاب والبارد (تياغو). لكن في بارابيرام، الخطوط الفاصلة بين الحق والباطل تتلاشى بسرعة؛ ومع كل خطوة يخطوها (عمر) داخل هذا العالم السفلي، يجد نفسه يتخلى عن مبادئه ليتحول تدريجياً إلى وحش لا يرحم، مدفوعاً بوجع الواجب وصراع البقاء.
بين ولاءٍ ممزق لـ (تياغو) الذي بدأ يراه كأخ، وواجبٍ يفرضه عليه سلك الشرطة، وعلاقة معقدة ومؤلمة مع (ميمونة)... تتشابك الخيوط لتصل إلى قداس أخير لا مفر منه. هل سينجح عمر في الحفاظ على إنسانيته؟ أم أن "ظل الخيانة" سيبتلع الجميع، ليثبت أن النصر في هذا العالم يعني دائماً الانهيار من الداخل؟
