إنَّ اللغة العربية تُعد الأساس في فهمِ كتابِ اللهِ الكريمِ , والسّنةِ الشريفةِ , والسبيل الأمثل لنيل السعادتين , ومن دونها لا يمكن بلوغُ تلكَ الأهداف السامية .
ومن هذا الأساس فقد شمَّر علماء الإسلام عن ساعد الجد لوضع القواعد لإحكام اللغة العربية , ومنعها من الخطل واللحن , فجاء هذا الأساس على يد أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب , إذ قسَّمَ الكلام قسّمة ثلاثيّة , التي جمعت كل كلام العرب وأخضعته إلى ذلك التقسيم , ومن هذه الأقسام الحروف , التي لها أثر كبير في تأدية المعاني , فكان لزاماً علينا أنْ نقف على هذه المعاني , عن طريق جمع شتاتها من أُمّات الكتب , وبيان معانيها , ودلالتها , وإعرابها , وقد وجدتُ من الحاجة ما دفعني أن أُدلي بدلوي للري من هذا المعين الصافي , مستفيداً من السابقين , الذين لهم فضل الريادة , ولا أدعي السبق بهذا العمل, وما يميّز عملي هو أنَّهُ جاء جامعاً لما وضعوا وبيّنُوا وباحثاً في دقائق الحروف على نحو مستقل, والتأكيد على بيان المعاني التي تخرج اليها تلك الحروف , والاقتصار ما استطعت على الشاهد القرآني , أو ما ورد عن السنة الشريفة , والابتعاد عن بعض الشواهد, التي تقدح في الحياء
