هذه دراسة نقديّة في الواقعية العلميّة بوصفها الركيزةُ الأشدُّ رسوخًا في الخطاب العَلموي: فهي التي تُحوِّل نجاح العلم من قدرةٍ على التنبؤ والضبط إلى دعوى أعمق تقول إن نظرياتنا تصف ما وراء المشاهدة (الغيب) كما هو في نفسه، وإن أفضل تفسير لنجاحها أنها صادقة مطابقة للواقع—أو قريبة من الصدق.
اتخذتُ كتاب Resisting Scientific Realism لـ كينيث براد راي (Kenneth Brad Wray) محورًا؛ لأنه يجمع بين جانبين مهمين: يفكك حجج الواقعيين، وفي مقدمتها حجة عدم المعجزات والاستدلال الموصل إلى أفضل تفسير، ثم يختبرها على تاريخ العلم حيث تظهر تحولاتٌ قلبت مفاهيم وكياناتٍ كانت يومًا “الأفضل” دون أن يتوقف العلم عن النجاح والعمل.
بين التحليل المنطقي والشاهد التاريخي—من الثورة الكوبرنيكية إلى التحول في الكيمياء من الوزن الذري إلى العدد الذري—ترسم الدراسة حدًّا أوضح بين المشاهد وغير المشاهد من جهة القيمة المعرفية، لتثير أسئلةً مهمةً من جديد، ما الذي يمنحه النجاح العملي للعلم لنا معرفيًا؟، وما الذي لا يبيح لنا نجاحه أن نعتقده أنطولوجيًا؟، هل هو قادر على مزاحمة العقائد الغيبية الدينية بوصفه منهجًا حاسمًا.
