مقدمة:
هناك خمس قصص تراجيكوميدية من الكاتب صاحب الرؤية الذي وصفه فلاديمير نابوكوف بأنه "أعظم فنان أنجبته روسيا حتى الآن"
" فالمعطف هي قصة قصيرة من تأليف نيكولاي جوجول ، نُشرت عام 1842. و كان لهذه القصة تأثير كبير على الأدب الروسي . و قال يوجين ميلخيور دي فوجيه ، متحدثًا عن كتّاب الواقعية الروسية: "لقد خرجنا جميعًا من تحت معطف جوجول" (وهو اقتباس يُنسب خطأً في كثير من الأحيان إلى دوستويفسكي ). وفي عام 1941، ووصف فلاديمير نابوكوف "المعطف" بأنها "أعظم قصة قصيرة روسية كُتبت على الإطلاق".
و تُعدّ "مذكرات مجنون" إحدى أبرز أعمال نيكولاي جوجول القصيرة، وهي عبارة عن هجاء لتجاوزات البيروقراطية القيصرية، تُروى بأسلوب فكاهي وعاطفي، وبمزيجه المميز بين الواقعي والسريالي. ومن أبرز ما يضمه هذا المجلد القيّم القصة الرئيسية المؤثرة، وقصة "الأنف"، وهي تحفة فنية عبثية.
