صوّرت هذه الأفلام نضال الشخصيات ضد التهميش والعنصرية، نجد صراعًا دائمًا ضد كل أنواع التمييز المؤسسي والعنصري الذي فُرض عليهم بسبب جنسهم أو عرقهم أو هويتهم أو لونهم.

يتحول الخيال كملاذ في بعض هذه الأفلام، بحيث تم توظيف الخيال كوسيلة للهروب من الواقع أو للتعبير عن الصراعات الداخلية النفسية والروحية للشخصيات، وركز عقبي في تحليله للأفلام على الشخصيات النسائية باعتبارهن رمزًا للمقاومة والتغيير، كما تطرق إلى تعدد الخطابات والدعوات للعدالة والمساواة في هذه الأفلام لتعكس رغبة صانعي هذه الأفلام في تسليط الضوء على الظلم الواقع على المهمشين والدعوة إلى تحقيق العدالة والمساواة.

وذكر حميد عقبي في مقدمته بأن هذه الأفلام قدمت صورة إنسانية معقدة وعميقة للمهمشين، من خلال استخدام السينما كأداة لفهم الهامش بما يحمله من تناقضات وصراعات اجتماعية ونفسية وأيضًا تطورات، حيث تأتي متغيرات حديثة توسع من الهامش وتعمقه وتجعله مألوفًا، كما أن هناك نوعية ضخمة من الأفلام التجارية الهشة تستخدم في السينما لأغراض السخرية والتهكم من هذه الفئات، وقضايا الهامش من المواضيع الهامة التي أصبحت تغري بعض المخرجين حول العالم ولكن هناك مصاعب كثيرة قد تواجه الرغبة في الغوص بهذا العالم المتخم بالحكايات والألم والبؤس والحلم. ورغم كل العوائق والصعوبات إلا أن موضوع الهامش والمهمشين والضواحي يظل له سحره الخاص وربما يعود هذا إلى الواقع والنماذج الإنسانية المقيدة بهذا الواقع والأماكن وتفاصيل كثيرة لا تزال مجهولة وتحتاج إلى من يكتشفها ويناقشها ضمن رؤية سينمائية مبدعة إنسانية وخلاقة.

وأوضح عقبي أن هذا الكتاب هو التعاون الأول مع الناقد والناشر اليمني د. حاتم الشماع وهناك كتب عديدة ستنشر مع مجلة الت للترجمة العربية والصحافة التي يديرها الشماع في بريطانيا وتهتم بدراسة الإبداعات اليمنية وترجمتها.

الجدير بالذكر أن حميد عقبي مقيم في فرنسا، مخرج سينمائي وكاتب، متنوع النشاطات، أخرج وأنتج عشرة أفلام قصيرة، صدر له ثمانية كتب نقد سينمائي، عشر روايات، أربع مجموعات قصصية، خمسة دواوين شعرية، وأقام عشرة معارض تشكيلية، وله كتب باللغة الفرنسية، وكتب نصوص سيناريو ونصوصا مسرحية، له ديوان مترجم إلى الألمانية ونص مسرحي تُرجم إلى الإيطالية، وهو ناشط ثقافي ويدير المنتدى العربي الأوروبي للسينما والمسرح.
