الشبكات لها مكانة كبيرة بالنسبة للخط الكوفي التربيعي بسبب طبيعته الهندسية البحتة، والتي تتطلب ضبط الحروف والكلمات ضمن خطوط الشبكة، وقد يكون الأمر حصريًا بالنسبة للكوفي التربيعي في التطابق التام مع خطوط الشبكة، وقد تشترك معه بعض الخطوط الأخرى بنسبة حيث يتعين تعديل بعض الزوايا والتركيبات وأشكال الحروف مما يخالف خطوط الشبكة فيها، كما يوجد بعض الفنون الأخرى التي قد تشترك مع استخدامات الشبكة مثل بعض أنواع الزخرفة الهندسية أو النباتية وغيرها.
ونظرًا للقواسم المشتركة أحيانًا بين الشبكات والأشبه بخطة اللعب، والمسارات كونها أداءً جماعيًا، والتنوعات الفنية كمهارات فردية؛ فقد ظهرت الحاجة إلى هذا الإصدار لتبيان هذه الفروق في ظل وجود العديد من التكوينات الفنية غير التقليدية.
جاء هذا الإصدار في أربع مباحث، يعرض الأول منها ما يُظَن أنه نشأة لشبكات الكوفي التربيعي ثم عرض لتطورها، ويأتي المبحث الثاني لاستعراض أنواع الشبكات المختلفة التي يمكن إعدادها لاستيعاب التكوينات المختلفة، ثم يكون المبحث الثالث لتبيان الأوزان المختلفة لخطوط الشبكة مما يوضح العلاقة بين الكتلة والفراغ، ويختتم المبحث الرابع باستعراض طرق إنتاج الشبكات كمرحلة سابقة أو لاحقة لعمل التصميم أو التكوين.
ونحن إذن نأمل أن يمثل هذا الإصدار لبنة من لبنات الكوفي التربيعي، وأن يسهم في ارتفاع البناء عاليًا شاهقًا، يسر الناظر، ويكون عدة للخطاطين والمصممين وكل محبي الخط العربي ومتذوقيه.
