تحكي الرواية قصة شاب يعاني من حيرة المشاعر وضياع القلب في زمن لا يمنح للعواطف حرية التعبير. تبدأ حكايته بلحظة غير متوقعة، في بستان الزيتون، حيث يسمع صوت بكاء غريب يقوده لاكتشاف سرّ كبير في قلبه: لقد أضاع قلبه!
ومن هنا، تنطلق رحلة استكشافية داخل ذاته، بين ممرات الثانوية، وساحات الانتظار، وابتسامات من أحب، ليعيش الصراع بين الرغبة والكرامة، وبين الاندفاع والتراجع. في كل يوم يمر، يتعلم الشاب درسًا جديدًا عن الحب، والفقد، والنضج، وعن معنى أن تحب بقلبٍ كبير وتفقده في صمت.
تنقسم الرواية إلى مراحل نفسية متدرجة، تبدأ بالبراءة والتعلق، ثم الانتقال إلى النضوج والانفصال العاطفي، ويُختتم كل ذلك بمحطة الوعي الذاتي مع نهاية مرحلة الدراسة الثانوية وبداية الحياة الجامعية، حيث تبدأ رحلة أخرى من التكوين الداخلي.
الرواية مزيج بين الواقع والحلم، بين الرمز والحقيقة، تكتب مشاعر كثيرة بلغة شاعرية وصادقة، وتطرح في نهايتها سؤالًا عميقًا: "من الأهم، القلب الذي نملكه، أم الذي أضعناه؟"
