مقدمة:
في كتابه موسى والتوحيد، يفترض فرويد أن موسى لم يكن يهوديًا، بل إنه ولد في عائلة نبيلة مصرية قديمة، وربما كان من أتباع أخناتون، وهو أحد أتباع التوحيد المصريين القدماء. ويقترح فرويد أيضًا أن موسى قاد أتباعه المقربين فقط إلى الحرية خلال فترة غير مستقرة في التاريخ المصري، وأن أتباعه قتلوا موسى بعد ذلك في تمرد. ويتكهن فرويد بأن الشعور بالذنب الناجم عن قتل موسى موروث عبر الأجيال؛ وهذا الشعور بالذنب يدفع اليهود إلى الدين لكي يشعروا بتحسن.
