مصر عام ١٧٩٣
تلك الصحراء الموحشة بين بني سويف والفيوم ، أصبح يحكمها رجل واحد، بسط نفوذه من غير رجعة على طرق التجارة، فجعل الجميع أمام أمرين:
إما دفع الإتاوة، وإما الموت.
استغل بمهارة ارتخاء القبضة الأمنية للمماليك عقب سقوط علي بك الكبير، فتحكم في أقوات الخلائق وأنفاسهم، حتى ضج الأهالي واشتكوا إلى الحجر والوبر، وعندما وصل الخبر إلى المحروسة، جاءت إلى كاشف بني سويف أوامر واضحة، القضاء على ذلك الخطر المحدق بأي ثمن، ولكن يبدو أنهم لم يعرفوا أن الصحراء هي مملكته التي لا يقبل أن ينازعه فيها أحد، عندما حانت المواجهة، كان في انتظارهم داهية يدعى سليمان الوحش.. زعيم الهليبة.
