مقدمة:
ذكريات تولستوي كتاب عن ابنه الكونت ايليا تولستوي. الكونت ليف نيكولايفيتش تولستوي؛ 9 سبتمبر 1828 - 20 نوفمبر 1910، و يشار إليه عادة باللغة الإنجليزية باسم ليو تولستوي، و كان كاتبًا روسيًا يُعتبر أحد أعظم المؤلفين في كل العصور. ولد لعائلة روسية أرستقراطية عام 1828، واشتهر بروايتي "الحرب والسلام" (1869) و"آنا كارينينا" (1877)، والتي غالبًا ما يُستشهد بها باعتبارها ذروة الخيال الواقعي. حقق شهرة أدبية لأول مرة في العشرينات من عمره من خلال ثلاثية شبه سيرته الذاتية، الطفولة والصبا والشباب (1852–1856)، واسكتشات سيفاستوبول (1855)، و بناءً على تجاربه في حرب القرم. تشتمل روايات تولستوي على عشرات القصص القصيرة والعديد من الروايات القصيرة مثل وفاة إيفان إيليتش، وسعادة العائلة، والحاج مراد. كما كتب المسرحيات والعديد من المقالات الفلسفية. و في إحدى رسائله إلى عمته، ألكسندرا أندريفنا تولستوي، قدم والدي الوصف التالي لأطفاله: الأكبر [سيرجي] أشقر الشعر وحسن المظهر؛ هناك شيء ضعيف وصبور في تعبيره، ولطيف للغاية. ضحكته ليست معدية. ولكن عندما يبكي، لا أستطيع الامتناع عن البكاء أيضًا. كل واحد يقول أنه مثل أخي الأكبر. أخشى أن أصدق ذلك. إنه جيد جدًا لدرجة يصعب تصديقها. لم تكن السمة الرئيسية لأخي هي الأنانية ولا نكران الذات، بل كان هناك معنى صارم بين الاثنين. لم يضحي بنفسه قط من أجل أي شخص آخر؛ ولكن ليس فقط تجنب إيذاء الآخرين، ولكن أيضًا التدخل فيهم. لقد احتفظ بسعادته ومعاناته لنفسه بالكامل.
