تشكل العلاقات الفرنسية الألمانية حالة خاصة فى التاريخ الأوروبي المعاصر، فقد تطورت العلاقة بين دولتى وسط أوروبا خلال الفترة (1871- 1966م) من العداء وأزمة الثقة إلى الصداقة والتكامل عبر ثلاث فترات كبرى متميزة: أولا: "العداء الوراثي" (حتى عام 1945)، وثانيا: "المصالحة" (1945-1963)، وأخيرًا الصداقة والتكامل -أو محور بون باريس- منذ عام 1963، مما أدي إلى ظهور أوروبا الموحدة، الذى رأت فيه باريس الوسيلة المثلى لاستعادة أمجادها الغابرة ودورها الذي يتجاوز حدودها الإقليمية بوصفها قوة عظمى على مسرح السياسة العالمية، ورأت فيها بون بديلًا عن الزعامة الألمانية الأوروبية المرفوضة، والتى يمكن أن يؤدي إلى ظهور النعرات القومية الأوروبية، وإلى بعث المخاوف التاريخية المتوجسة من دور ألماني مسيطر فى أوروبا.
