يتناول الكتاب مرحلة تاريخية مجهولة نسبيا في تاريخ المغرب، وهي مرحلة ظهور ثائر مجهول الهوية يدعى "بوحلاس" بـ"سوس" جنوب المغرب، زعم أنه السلطان المولى يزيد، فقام بثورة دموية عنيفة، كان اليهود أكثر ضحاياها، وذلك من أجل الوصول إلى العرش، مستثمرا الفراغ السياسي، وانشغال السلطة المركزية بمسألة الشرعية بعد وفاة السلطان محمد بن عبد الله (الملك المصلح).
