الخيطُ الفضي هو ذاك الصراعُ النفسي الأبديُّ بين الرغبات المادية والاحتياجات الروحانية، المُعادلة الصَّعبة التي نزنُ بها تلك الاحتياجات والرغبات.
البطلةُ في صراع مُستمرٍّ بين أبٍ شرِهٍ مستغرق في ماديته وأمٍّ ذات أصول صوفية حالمة لأبْعد حدٍّ. أب صيدلي يقضي معظمَ أوقاته في معمله, وأمٌّ رسامة ترسم ما لم تجدْه في حياتها بريشتها الخاصة.
هذا التطرفُ الملموس لكلا الأبوين كوّن شخصية مشتَّتة لديها، تحاول أن تبحث عن جذورها ليرشدَها هذا البحث عن كينونتها الضائعة بينهما، فتمارس طقوسَ الخروج من الجسد (الإسقاط النَّجمي) محاولة منها لنزعِ هذا الستار الحاجب بينها وبين الحقيقة لترى ما كان يجبُ أن تراه, وتسمع ما كان يجب أن تسمعه.
