كتاب "Shades of silk and gold" .
Literary Genre: Realistic Drama / Psychological Thriller / Coming-of-Age Story
Target Age Group: Young Adults (12–18 years old)
Protagonist: Hanna, a sixteen-year-old girl, growing up amidst luxury and secrets.
Chapter One: Soft Beginnings
"I didn't know that elegance could hide danger, or that glitter could conceal long shadows... But I was observing, even at ten years old."
Our house was large... very large. Its high ceilings made me feel small, not just in age, but in existence itself. The marble floors cooled my tiny feet, and the scent of perfumes pervasive in every corner made me think the house breathed with a luxurious floral aroma.
The perfume bottles were carefully lined up on a wooden table in my father's room, in shades of pink, gold, and clear. Each perfume had a name I didn't understand, but I thought some resembled princesses, and others hid strange secrets.
I loved watching my father choose his watch every morning. They weren't just watches; they were small treasures sparkling under the sunlight streaming through his office window. His favorite gold watch glittered like the sun, whispering secrets to me that I didn't comprehend.
And my mother's handbags... they were never used. They sat on her closet shelves like paintings not allowed to be touched. Sometimes I'd reach out to open one, only to find it empty. Beautiful on the outside, silent on the inside.
In this glittering world, Layla was the warm light. Our nanny, who had been with me since birth, was more than just a maid or caregiver. She was the embrace when the world grew cold, and the voice that told me stories when everyone else was silent.
She would say to me in her gentle voice: "Hanna, not everyone who smiles at you loves you. Sometimes, those closest to us are the most dangerous."
I used to laugh then, not understanding the meaning of her words. But I felt that her stories, filled with princesses deceived by their closest kin, and kings whose thrones were snatched by hands from within the palace, weren't just fiction.
One night, I woke up to a strange sound. Whispers charged with anger seeped from under my father's office door. I crept on tiptoes and stood behind the closed door.
"How dare you?! We had an agreement!"
"You were the first to betray... This inheritance isn't yours alone."
My breath hitched. I heard the word "betrayal," then "inheritance"... I felt as if the world shook beneath me. I didn't understand everything that was said, but I felt something strange forming inside me. Like a small cloud began to gather in my chest, a cloud of doubt, fear... and perhaps anger.
I returned to my bed that night, thinking: Could everything change suddenly? Could elegance hide threads of betrayal?
I didn't know then... that this cloud would grow, and that my whole life would soon change.
Chapter Two: The Spark
"Sometimes, the explosion doesn't happen suddenly... it starts with a small crack no one notices."
A few days passed since that night when I heard the words that wouldn't leave my head: "betrayal... inheritance." And since then, I started noticing a change in my father's gaze, in his tone of voice, and even in his footsteps.
Then came the day when life stopped... or at least, life as I knew it.
The sun was unusually bright, and the villa was bathed in soft light, as if nothing bad could happen in such brightness. But the phone rang. And I saw my mother's features change the moment she heard the voice on the other end. She threw the phone on the floor and collapsed.
"No... no! This is impossible!" she screamed, her cries piercing my heart before my ears.
They said it was a car accident. They said the driver lost control. They said my father passed away in an instant. But no one explained why my mother whispered after midnight in her room: "They threatened him... he knew the end was near."
The villa became silent, heavy. As if the luxurious sofas, the crystal chandeliers, and even the perfumes I loved... all grieved. "Everything stayed in place... except my soul, lost among the walls."
No one paid attention to me anymore. My uncle started visiting frequently, bringing men I didn't know, talking about business, stocks, real estate. They would sit in my father's office, drinking coffee, deciding the fate of what he left behind. I would pass by them, and they would look at me as if I were a piece of furniture.
In one of their meetings, one of them said with a forced smile: "Hanna is a little girl, she won't understand any of this."
I smiled back... but I didn't forget.
Layla, my nanny, tried to comfort me, telling me things would settle down. But I knew something strange was happening. It wasn't just death. It was a sudden disappearance of truth, and the rise of new faces trying to control everything.
One night, I stood before my father's mirror, picked up his watch, which he never took off, and put it on my small wrist. It was too big for me, but it felt right for something else... for a silent vow.
"I will know everything. I will protect what remains of you, Father... and I will reclaim what was lost, even if it costs me everything."
Chapter Three: The Key to the Inheritance
"Sometimes, a key doesn't just grant entry... it carries an invitation to delve into what has long been silenced."
Months passed since my father's death, but no one filled the void. The villa remained the same, every corner whispering his name, but the warmth of his presence was gone. I had just turned sixteen, becoming more aware... and more silent.
On a warm March afternoon, Layla came carrying a strange envelope in her trembling hands. It was white, sealed with an old wax stamp, bearing no name or address.
"I found this in one of your father's old books. It seems it was left there for you, Hanna," she said, then whispered, as if she didn't want the air to hear.
I opened the envelope calmly. Inside, there was a small key, made of dark metal, and a faded yellow paper with handwriting I knew well.
"To Hanna,
If you are reading this letter, know that the time has come. In Valenica Bank, there is a safe deposit box under my name. This key will grant you what I couldn't tell you while I was alive.
Don't trust everyone. Not everyone who smiles at you loves you.
Your Father."
My heart pounded violently. My father's handwriting was clear... no room for doubt. I felt like I was holding the end of a long thread, a thread that would lead me to what I had always suspected.
I went to the bank alone, with the nervousness of a child and the determination of a young woman. I inserted the key into the lock and heard a soft click... as if something that had been dormant had awakened.
Inside the box was a black velvet case, which I opened slowly to reveal: an ancient diamond necklace, uniquely designed, resembling intricate Arabic engravings on white gold, centered with a gleaming blue stone, like an eye that sees everything. Beneath the necklace, another small paper.
"This is not just a necklace... it is an inheritance, and a guardian of an ancient tale. Open it when you are alone, and contemplate the symbols... You will understand later why elegance was both a shield and a secret."
In the corners of the necklace were delicate engravings, barely visible... like a hidden code. I felt as if my father was speaking to me through this stone, telling me: "Search, Hanna... there is still much to be revealed."
When I left the bank, I held the case with a pounding heart. I wasn't just carrying luxurious jewelry; I was carrying the beginning of a path, and the first step on a journey to the truth.
And for the first time since his death... I didn't cry. Instead, I felt like I was getting closer to him, more than ever before.
Chapter Four: Secrets of Elegance
"Everything beautiful hides something deeper... not all shine means joy, and not all jewelry is worn for mere adornment."
Ever since I returned with the necklace, nothing was the same. I spent long hours in my room contemplating it. It wasn't an ordinary necklace... but a silent map, waiting for someone to read its symbols.
One day, I noticed something strange. When I shone a dim light on the blue stone, delicate lines appeared, forming a 'V' shape carved within it. I suddenly remembered something... My father owned an old fashion magazine called "Velvet & Vision," which he kept in a small wooden box. I rushed to the old desk, opened the neglected box, and found the magazine... And on the last page, a similar small mark, etched in faded ink.
"Secrets begin when you dare to see what isn't said."
That night, I couldn't sleep. I opened my laptop and started searching.
This is how "Jewel_H" was born... my secret account on the new social platform "LumaNet." I created it without personal photos, just pictures of the necklace, its intricate details, and mysterious captions. People started interacting, then asking questions, then following me by the hundreds.
Some thought I was interested in antique jewelry, others thought it was an art campaign... But only one person caught my eye.
"LegacyWatcher."
It was an account with no posts, but it commented on every photo I uploaded. His comments weren't ordinary... they were codes.
