وصف الكتاب

Abstract
Vaccination is one of the most effective and cost-efficient public health interventions, preventing millions of deaths annually and significantly reducing the burden of infectious diseases. In Iraq, national immunization programs have achieved relatively high coverage; however, maintaining effective vaccination practices requires adequate public knowledge and awareness.

Despite the success of immunization programs, gaps remain in public knowledge, vaccine uptake, and adherence to recommended schedules.

Vaccine hesitancy, misinformation, and reliance on non-medical sources such as social media may
negatively influence vaccination behaviors, highlighting the need for further assessment.

This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge regarding vaccination among participants
at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, evaluate their vaccination practices, identify sources of information, and determine factors influencing knowledge and behavior.

A descriptive cross-sectional study with an analytical component was conducted over a two- week period (February–March 2026) at Al-Yarmouk Teaching
Hospital, Baghdad.

A total of 400 adult participants were recruited using a consecutive sampling method.

Data were collected through a validated structured questionnaire and analyzed using Microsoft Excel, with chi-square test applied (p < 0.05 considered statistically significant).

The majority of participants demonstrated a fair level of knowledge (69.5%), while
only 17.25% had good knowledge. COVID-19 vaccine uptake was relatively high (66.8%), but full schedule completion was suboptimal (53.3%), mainly due to lack of trust and fear of side effects. Influenza vaccination rates were low (34.7%) and associated with misconceptions about effectiveness.

In contrast, awareness and
appropriate practices regarding rabies vaccination were notably high.

The findings indicate that although basic awareness of vaccination exists, significant gaps remain in comprehensive knowledge and practice.

Addressing misinformation, improving public trust, and strengthening targeted health
education and evidence-based communication strategies are essential to enhance vaccine uptake and optimize public health outcomes.
