This research investigates the evolving role of visual social media platforms, specifically Instagram and TikTok, alongside the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the persistent challenge of misinformation in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. By analyzing a dataset of over 1.9 million posts and billions of interactions, we uncover significant differences in content moderation, engagement patterns, and political discourse stemming from the distinct algorithmic and social-network-based approaches of these platforms. Our findings show how collaboration differently impacts engagement across platforms, how algorithmic biases can down-rank specific political content, and the contrasting roles of traditional media versus individual influencers. The study also delves into the pervasive spread and algorithmic incentivization of fake news, the strategic use of AI in campaigns, and the ongoing threat of foreign interference. The research highlights the urgent need for platform-specific campaign strategies, robust media literacy education, and increased algorithmic transparency to safeguard democratic processes in an increasingly digital political landscape.
